Hi we have a domain of zzzzz.com which works fine.

However we want to setup a new domain for a different dept so they have their own email server.
Instead of buying a new domain can I setup xxxx.zzzzz.com?

I know this works for websites but not sure on email.

Thanks for your help
Ian

Yes!

zzzz.com IN MX 10 mailsrv.zzzz.com
mailsrv.zzzz.com IN A 11.12.13.14

xxxx.zzzz.com IN MX 10 othersrv.xxxx.zzzz.com
othersrv.xxxx.zzzz.com IN A 21.22.23.24

Chris.

Hi Chris.
Thanks for the info.

Just to clarify. From your details I can setup a seperate mail server at a different site and have email to ian@xxxx.zzzz.com for example?

Ian

Yes, the MX record for your sub domain can point to any IP address or server that you like. It could be your main server, a seperate sub domain server or an external server. It doesn't matter!
