Hello, MY problem is like this: - we are going to upgrade our single domain NT 4.0 to win2k. Our ISP holds and handle our register dns zone "Mycompany.com" and will continue to do so. We wants to use same name for Active Directory domain name. This zone is not dynamic and AD requires dynamic DNS to work properly. Now according to Grate Microsoft one should delegate required four zones to LAN base DNS. By this I mean _udp, _tcp, _sites, and _msdcs zones. I wants to know how safe this stape is and why no one discuss here on this grate site of information. I already checked the FAQ for DNS configuration on this site but no hints. I am referring the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles #KB255913, 301190, and 301191 and other information on TechNet site.
My network is simple. One PDC and Two BDC, all NT 4.0. Exchange 5.5 on BDC. Web server separate on it's on workgroup. DHCP and WINS on BDC. NO DNS AT PRESENT. PDC will be Internal DNS while upgrade. Win XP and Win9X client (under 25). Please advice before I make any blunder here. Thanks in advance.
again ISP DNS is static and wants to use same name as internal and extarnal purpose.
