Hello,

I'm having problems with my Linksys BEFDSR41W. This is a ADSL Gateway/Modem/Switch/Router.

The problem is that i cannot maintain a internet connection for at least an hour. The DNS ipsettings of my WAN turns to all zeros. This happens with the original firmware and with the updated firmware.

With my former USB ADSL modem, i've checked the releasedate and the expirationdate of the connection in the cmdprompt. The difference between the dates is the time.
E.g. i've obtained it at 18-12-2003 at 10:00 PM and it expires in at 18-12-2003 at 11:00 PM.

With my new Linksys modem the dates differ and so are the times. This seems to be correct.

So is my problem a hardware or a software issue? I've asked my ISP if there are any problems with the DNS servers, but they told me that there are none. Also another customer of the same ISP has the same problems like me, but has a E-tech modem/router.

Could i have misconfigured something in the setup?

I searched several large Linksys forums and cannot find any complaints about the ability of this device to do a lease renewal from the ISP.

Given your neighbor has the same issue, rather than ask your ISP about their DNS servers ask about issues with lease renewal.

this sounds like my problem, but I totally lose the WAN connection. Can you connect to external IP addresses (i.e. figure out the IP address for 66.102.11.99 ) while your DNS is 'down'? If not, then your entire WAN link/internet link is down, not just your DNS.

Anyway. Maybe I'm just seeing everyone's problem as my own, but I know for a fact that the Linksys Wireless-B routers have the same problem as mine, so it's possible...

I can't ping to google, so i have the same problem as you. I only can connect to my lan devices.

By the way, do you also have the linksys befdsr41w?

Nope. I'm running the WRT54G. I'm (intermittently(sp?)) working on several fixes. You can check my thread in this forum to see where I'm at. Everything's running great today, so far...
