We have just setup a Windows 2000 Server DC on our NT4 Network. Only One more BDC to upgrade.

The issues is I am not sure if DNS is working on the 2000 Server.

When I try NSLOOKUP it is pointing to the previouse PDC DNS.

Not sure if I need to change any settings on the NT4 Server so that it can replicate with the 2000 Servers DNS.

Any info would be great on this matter.

I'll even give you a star for your time!.

Give one of your machines a static IP and put the 2k server as the DNS server. Then try your nslookups and see what happens. Is the 2k server a secondary DNS? Once you finish your migration, implement the AD integrated DNS, and they will replicate thru AD....

Thanks,

Hi Mattwray,

I have already implemented the AD DNS, the BDC that is running on the network also NT4 has DNS and it seems to be working fine

Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
(C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>nslookup
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.XX.XX: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
Default Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.XX.XX

This is the error message above.

Also I am getting no events in the DNS event log on the DC

Hope you can help

Regards,

Sten

Put a host entry in the reverse lookup zone for your DNS server.

Electricity is actually made up of extremely tiny particles called electrons, that you cannot see with the naked eye unless you have been drinking.
