DNS address field in OSX Network Control Panel

Does anybody know why when you have TCPIP configured as DHCP, the DNS fields are not populated by the DNS addresses issued out by the DHCP server ?
However, if I go into the Terminal and go into ipconfig and type: ipconfig getpacket en0

This then lists all the IP address, gateway, subnet, DNS addresses etc etc.
So why does it show in iconfig in the Terminal and not in the DNS Server address field in the Nework Control panel GUI ?



 
Because the Network Preferences Pane shows persistent settings, not current status.
