We have a BCM 50. When my users press the DND button, it rings directly to the receptionist. This is not what I want to happen. If someone puts their phone on DND, I'd like the phone to go to voice mail.

If you use the feature F 85 (DND) all it should do it mute the ringer and speaker, the caller will still hear the rings and go thru the 3 or 4 rings and go to VM. It wont go directly to VM if they want that use F 984 (FWD to VM).
And DND should not make the call go to the main phone unless the phones line is on the recepts phone too.

Please bear with me - someone else set up the system, I'm just trying to make it work the way we want. I'm trying to learn my way through the BCM Element Manager.

The DND button is set to F85 and ringing 4 times then going to VM is exactly what I want, however it is going to the main phone on the first ring. The receptionist does have a big phone with a KIM(?) that has everyones name and she can see when we are on the phone. I don't believe all of our lines actually ring at her desk though.

Treat your problem along the lines of Norstar programming.

From the actual phone, please get them to press the "Feature" key followed by * and 0. This will bring up the key enquiry function. Then press the key that they think should be programmed as DND. It could be a different facility that has been assigned.

To correct this, get the user to press the "Feature" key followed by * and 3. This will bring up a message about program features. Press the key that you want to change followed by the "Feature" key and the code required. i.e. 85.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

I checked on my own phone - when you do a button inquiry then "Do Not Disturb" shows on the phone display, so the button is programmed right.

When it is not in DND does it ring the Receps phone too.
DND has nothing to do with sending the call to another phone. Try what Firebid said but change the button to F 984.

No, it does not ring at the receptionists phone when not in DND (the indicator next to my name on the KIM does blink, but no audible ring). Her KIM buttons are programmed as FTR *2, internal autodial.

I don't want to change the button to F984, because I don't want people to think I've sent them directly to VM and am therefore out of the office. I want it to ring a few times, then go to VM like I was just away from my desk. (minor distinction I know, but that's the way the boss' want it).

I know this is prety basic but is the "boss's" DN set to forward on busy to the reception DN?

Are these numbers DID's being directed by target lines? If so, check the Prime Line for the TL and then check the line assignment. Under the Assigned DNs tab make sure there are 2 appearances of the TL (whether its ring only, ring and appear etc) then under the Preferences tab where it says "if busy", select "To Prime" and make sure your Prime Line for the TL is the voicemail DN.

THANK YOU! I went to the TL and under Prime Set for my extension (7502) I made the Prime Set also be 7502 (it was 7500, the receptionist). Then when I put my phone on DND, it rang 4 times and went to my voice mail.
