I have brought this up in the past but cannot find it now.

I have 2 BCM 400s at release 4.0. One started out as a 3.6 and the other a 3.7. One has all digital handsets and other has all IP handsets
On both, when activating the DND on Busy feature in the programming when the 2nd call comes in, the caller gets a busy tone. The reason I am trying to activate this is because when someone is on the phone (DND on Busy feature is off) the second call rings a the same volume as the first call does. It is not at a lower volume and this is very annoying as you cannot just turn ot down while it is ringing because it will turn the current call down instead, doesn't matter if you are on speaker or handset. Are there any known patches for this? I haven't patched either BCM in a while but I didnt want to just start throwing patches at it and cause other problems.

It's been a while since I've troubleshot that problem, but I think that's the way it is unfortunately, seems like a design flaw to me. The only way I've been able to make it work was to have the prime set of the target line (assuming you have private lines) a different ext other then the one your working on. The second call will ring that different set but flash on your set. Maybe the prime set could be a set in the switch room or somewhere where no one can hear that phone ringing.

If anyone else has a different solution....be my guest. Would love to know.

Thanks for the reply but that is not the way is is supposed to work. I have it working on my 5 BCM 50s Versions 2.0 - 3.0. I have been out of the field for a while now but I have had this work on quite a few BCM 1000 and 400s. It just seems to be these 2, for whatever reason... These were installed by me, 1 year apart, before I ended coming to work for this company. We are moving offices of the older BCM 400 and we are considering a different system. I, of course, want to keep the BCM, it is what I know. But this is a huge bother to some. So I am really hoping to get some input and possibly resolve this issue.

I'm not sure how you have it working on your other systems, but I would be interested to know. Below is straight from the docs. To me, it should work the way you want, believe me. The docs seem to contradict itself, but like I was saying before, just for testing purposes change the primeset of the target line to a different set.

"DND on Busy"
When you are busy on a call and a second call comes in, your telephone alerts you to the second
call with a light ring. If you find this second-call ring disruptive, assign Do Not Disturb (DND) on
Busy to prevent a second call.
If this feature is active, the line indicator for an external incoming call flashes, but your telephone
does not ring.
• Internal and private network callers hear a busy tone instead of ringing when you are on the
telephone.

That maybe true, but the funny thing is, in all the testing I have done I never had anyone complain nor did I experience the busy tone the DOCS say I should get...
I am not arguing here, just think it is weird. :/

The only reason I am even trying DND on Busy is because when the second call comes in it is not a "light ring". It s loud. Or at least set to where ever their ring volume is set at.

I guess I could just through the latest patches at it and see what happens. I probably will not do this for a couple weeks so maybe in that time, hopefully, if somebody has experienced this will have found this thread.

Thanks for your input and when/if this problem gets resolved, I will post what the fix was.
