I have the need to have a bunch of T7100 norstar phone to be able to forward calls into there voicemail when a class is in session... BUT...when it is in the forwarded mode...the main office has to be able to break in and get their attention (priority override) AND......paging has to work regardless of what mode set is in.

DND (F85) = No paging , allows break in .... I can't use this
F984 = allows paging, no break in when called.
forward (F4) = ?????????

Is there anything you can think of?
will "allow busy on DND" give me paging back in DND mode?
will a voice call be able to break in on F984 ?

I'm going back there soon to program this....and play..but thought I'd ask before I went out

thanks a million,
Todd

Voice Call will not break F984.
DND on busy wouldn't work as the set isn't technically busy AND it wouldn't allow paging when the set IS busy.

I don't think you are going to be able to get both DND and allow paging. When those with the 7100s are in class how are the calls getting to the 7100s? Is someone transferring the calls there? Can they not just F986 the calls to the 7100s vmail?

What about setting up a 'night' type service if lines ring on the sets, so that they activate it when they are in session. The calls would all ring ONE of the 7100s and that one phone could be F984'd to a general vmail box.

This way the receptionist or whoever would be able to voice call any of the other phones to get their attention and calls that would normally RING the other phones will be forwarded to a general school is in session vmail box. When the class is over, someone would check the box and forward any messages to the appropriate person. MRoberts

How may different locations are we talking about here? Perhaps an external paging system that is not affected by the set status, that could be accessed only for an urgent type of situation, would provide a solution. A zoned paging setup could be used, with a different zone for each classroom. Using a trunk for access to the paging, you could exclude any sets from the external page using Line Pool access deny.

I know that the school is asking for allot of flexability.
MICS in in major school with middle school & high school and a VERY busy AA...to many phones to have a catch all mailbox, then have someone copy to individual mailboxes. I called tech support on this one and they played with it in there shop and couldn't come up with anything for a simple programming fix. They thought it would be a good one to have developed for a school situation.Teachers have to be able to toggle phone on/off anytime during the day. They are told to have it go to VM when class is in...and off,if they like when it's not.Having a ringing service would not work in this instance. There is an external paging system but some rooms are remote and not covered by it,thus the need for set paging also.Paging is a must for security reasons.
Parents can call teachers directly, there is an AA.

It seems the best solution is to extend that paging system. Then the teachers can put their phones in DND during class.

If my understanding of the problem is correct I would try giving the phone that needs to break in priority in programming

That is what I'm working on next <s> (sale of external paging system)

thanks everyone !!

Well, I have a sort of solution but You have to be quick, You can call forward your calls to voicemail F4 and the extension #, give the office Priority call. when they call the extension they will have to touch the Priority call button immediatley or it will go to voicemail, and pages will work.

How about a (somewhat) simpler solution? Program a "Transfer to VM" console key for the front office attendant to send calls to VM mailbox directly, and instruct the console operator to use that rather than the normal "Transfer" key to send the call to the room, unless it's a "priority" call, which they would transfer directly to the room. Have the AA or DID send all calls to VM without ringing the extension, i.e. must go to attendant for emergencies. Since this "priority" is an internal thing, leave it as an operator training matter for what qualifies as being worth interrupting class. Otherwise, DID, attendant or AA dumps calls to VM.

The "Priority call" seems to be a "time-of-day scheduling" issue, rather than an "interrupt-a-call-in-progress" issue. They don't really want the privacy implied by DND.

"Break-in" sometimes called "Barge-in" implies (to me) interrupting an existing call. In this case, it sounds like the phone will be on-hook, but they don't want to be disturbed unless it's "urgent." Seems like it's largely a matter of limiting outside access to inward dialing. Maybe you can set up a COS table and restrict inbound calls from outside trunks?
