I'm sure that this is another case of a "Norstar feature" that doesn't work the way the user wants it too...

The user wants to turn on Do Not Disturb so that internal callers are to see that she is not to be interupted. But she wants to see the Caller ID on the external calls so that she can decide whether to take the call or let it go to VM.

The Caller ID does flash just for a moment as the call is transferred to VM.

If there is no way of displaying it on the phone, does the CTA computer software have this feature?

Already done that. :)

I've setup call logging on all the sales rep phones and added a button so that they could get into the call log anytime they wanted to.

My experience with call logging is that the call is logged only after the external caller hangs up. The sales reps wants to see the Caller ID when the phone is ringing. All they see is the DND display.

You need one solid ring for the call ID to transfer to the system. The only thing I can think that will work is while the phone is ringing try feature 811. Hope that helps.

Okay, I'll give it try and report back...

I would suggest that you pull the CFB (call forward busy) off of that estension. it still won't ring but the indicator and caller id should display. (make sure that the call forward no answer is enabled though)

follow as per jerryreeve ...
DND just mutes the phones speaker ... no ring, no voice call, no paging announcements

Senk1s,

In addition to your list, DND puts a "Do not disturb" message on the top line of the T7316, which is where the Caller ID goes. ;-)

Jerry,

CFB is off on all phones.

LKev,

The Call Information featre, Feature 811, does work when a call comes in on a DND, but that requires a couple of button presses. I was hoping for a "no brainer" for the user. (Ironically, I had programmed a button for F811 on the users phones to get around Caller ID not displaying when a second call came in, but I pulled the button off many phones after I upgraded to 6.1.)

Any other suggestions? I'm still waiting to award my thanks. ;-)

Another problem has been brought up: when DND is turned on a phone and a call is transferred to that extension, the phone rings back to the extension that started the transfer. The behaviour that we'd like is for the call to go to VM after 4 rings, the same as with CFNA.

first question is what is the version and system that you have?
secondly I suggest that you maywant to increase the transfer callback timer to higher than the CFNA timer.

Thanks Jerry,

My bad: MICS 6.1.

Transfer callback timer it new to me. Where do I find this setting?

look under system programming->feature settings->trnsfr callbk:

when I have vmail in use I set this to 12 since vm should be handeling all calls.

Jerry,
Okay, now I remember... I had set this to 6, thinking it was rings. Is it really seconds?

it is rings but if you have a voicemail system with call forward on no answer to voicemail you don't want the call coming back to the originator of the transfer, that's why I set it to 12 rings.
