It seems that the proper way to setup an internet access with a private network is to setup a seperate NIC as a DMZ(?) connected to the router to the public network. I have installed such NIC and connected a DS router (827) to it (though still having router setup problems). Our network has a PDC (10.127.1.2) and a database server (10.127.3), Win98 and WinNT4 stations (10.127.1.x), a Cisco 2620 router (10.127.1.4) with T1 connecting to remote location 2620 (10.127.2.4) and a group of PC's (10.127.2.x), all static addresses.

I would appreciate feedback as to what the DMZ does, how to set it up, and any suggestions to addressing the new NIC and router.

I assume that what you are trying to do is use your 827 for your internet connection, and you are attempting to share that internet connection through the machine that has 2 NICs in it.

Make sure the computer that has 2 NICs in it can ping the internet first. When that finally works, you just go to control panel, network connections, and right click on the ethernet card going to the internet, then go to properties. Somewhere in there is the option to share the internet connection. Enable this and everyone on your LAN (if they point their gateway to your 2 NIC machine) will be able to surf the net. ~~~~~~~~~~
