DMC repeater connectio 2

Does anyone else have the same problem of being able to link and connect with the digital mobility controller but not the repeaters? Since all the new laptops don't come with serial ports, I use a USB to serial connector (Belkin FU409) which works perfectly with fastrads, digital mobility controllers, NAM's etc, but not with the DMC repeaters. When I questioned Nortel on this, they indicated that the USB to serial connector I had won't work with them.

I find it funny that my connector will work with everything else, but is incompatible with repeaters. Does anyone know of which connector will work with the repeaters (and everything else)?Is there a brand and model that will work with them.



There are only 2 seasons in Canada, Golf and Snowmobile season.

I just had the same problem with my first digital mobility install, Nortel told me the same thing that USB serial will not work. How I was able to program the repeaters was to bring a desktop computer to the site (sounds insane right?!), but that was the only thing that seemed to work,I have even tried a serial pcmcia card and had no luck with that. If you find a serial connector that works let me Know.

Thanks Guys I am in the process of sorting out my engineers with new laptops and that has just completely changed the spec I require.

It's the same thing on the BCM serial port, I have to have a laptop with a serial port as I have tried 3 USB to serial converters and they don't work.

Thanks for all your responses. Isn't it amazing that with how complex and "advanced" their BCM (and other systems)have become, that Nortel continues to push serial connections.

Hasn't Nortel realized that all of the new laptop computers (actually over the last 3-4 years) don't use or come with serial ports, they come equiped with USB ports now.

And Nortel would like to make us think that are up to date with modern technology!!!!!!!!!!!
