DMA failure

I get this message:

Disk Driver: Too many DMA failures, disabling DMA.


The system no longers recognizes one of my hard drives. Is there any way to recover that drive? This happened between a big project and backup. I would sincerely appreciate any suggestions. I am running SCO Open Unix 8.
