After installing Windows 2000 I´ve had some problems.. :)

My dvd (pioneer dvd-a04) has much longer seek time than before. You notice this when you press play or trying to jump between chapters. It is not the software, I have tried different programs.

I finally came to the conclusion that the DMA setting wasn´t on. But when searching the system units I didn´t find a button similar to that one in Windows 98. Is there a way to force the DMA on? A software program? Or where is the setting?

There is now way to actually force W2K to use DMA on a particular device. However, you can set it to PIO only or DMA if detected.

These settings can be found under the Hard Drive Controller settings per channel in Device Manager. Unlike the other OS' the W2K driver/device must communicate with W2K that they are capable of this mode of operation. The previous OS' would allow you to turn it on regardless of whether the device supported it and under some circumstances lock the unit upon reboot. So, if you change the setting to DMA if available and it still comes up in PIO mode you should look for an updated driver.

Doug
dxd_2000@yahoo.com
