I've just upgraded my DLT4000's and 7000's to 8000's.In my main backup server I have attached 3 x 8000's in a drive array, configured thus:

SCSI BUS 0 - Drive A & Drive B
SCSI BUS 1 - Drive C

During POST, all drives are recognised by my SCSI adapters (Adaptec 2940UW) and subsequently show up OK in WINNT. Adapters and drives are configured correctly and there are no conflicting SCSI ID's etc. However BENT (version 7.3) can only ever see Drive A and Drive C.Even if you disconnect A and C and swap B to a different Bus / Connector it still is invisible to BENT.If you swap Drive C to Bus 0, it will go off line.
Does anyone know of any compatibility problems using mutiple drives of this type, on this hardware, platform and version of BENT?

After paying Veritas for technical support and waiting for 3 weeks with no sign of a solution, I've resorted to fixing this problem myself:

If anyone experiences the problem of Backup Exec not seeing drives attached to your system, here is the solution:

1. Stop all the Backup Exec Services
2. Find the file pvl.mdb in the folder where Backup Exec is installed and rename it to something else.
3. Copy pvl.mdb from the original installation CD, or some other source, and paste it to the folder where BackUp Exec is installed.
4. Check the attributes of the new file. Make sure it's NOT set to read only.
5. Restart the Backup Exec services.

Hey presto, the drives database will be rebuilt and all your drives should now be visible.

Note that you will have to amend the properties of any previously configured backup jobs to backup to the correct drive and you will also need to create new media sets if required.

I wonder if I can get my money back from Veritas?
