Hi there, I was wondering how I can tell the difference between 35/70 and 40/80 tape's. The actual tapes are not labeled and I have both types of drives but need to know what tapes go in what drive.

Thanks

There is not a specific make of DLT for each - as long as the DLT's are model IV (black in colour), then they can be formatted for both 35/70 and 40/80.

If you put a 40/80 formatted tape into a 35/70 drive, you will just have to format it so it will work. With a 35/70 formatted tape in a 40/80 drive, unless you format and set it to a 40/80, it will backup using 35/70 format even though it is in a 40/80 drive.
