Quick question .. I have two separate servers: a) HP9000 with HP-UX 10.20 and b) RS6000 running AIX 4.3.3. I would like to create a tar file on the DLT that's on the HP and then take that tape to the AIX and read the tar file there. Can this be done ?? What would I need to do ?? Thanks for the help.

Ivan, I have done something like this in the past with 4mm tapes. From what I remeber the AIX tape drive had to be set to variable block (i.e. blk size = 0). It was 6 years ago but that little fact seems to stick in my mind.

Hey thanks for the tip !! Yes, I figure I will have to play a little with the settings on the device drivers for the DLT units. I know I can set things like block size on my AIX but there is not much to choose from on the HP box. I'll see if I can find anything else. Keep the tips coming, they are TRULY appreciated.
