DLT Backup Tape 15/30 Door is STUCK CLOSE

My Compaq DLT Backup Tape 15/30 does not open

It seems to be jammed closed, probably because the
is getting tangle.

How can I manually crack the door open.

I have try turning the tape drive off to no avail.
and the driver manager on Windows 2000 does not see
the tape drive.

Either the tape is still in the tape mechanism or more likely the tape "leader" came off its guide. You will need to remove the tape unit, remove the plastic cover off the tape guide, thread the leader through the tape guide rollers, and reattach it to the leader arm located just in front of the where the tape cartridge rests during use. The leader attaches to the tip of the arm via the small elongated hole on the tip of the leader, when pivoted towards the tape cartidge. To remove the catridge, there is a soleniod operated latch, which you will have to maually release. The pivot arm must be able to move toward the cartridge location, I believe you have to release the arm from it's resting place, manually release it
