I have installed BackupExec v.8.6 on a Windows Server with a DLT 7000 tape drive. Althought it shows up in the device manager, BackupExec does not detect the tape drive. It does not show up in the MMC console, and there is no resource tab in the device manager for this device. Does this mean I have to restart the server and configure the AHA2940 SCSI card at start up? How do I change the settings so that the tape drive uses resources?

During the installation of Backup Exec, did you choose "use the veritas device drivers"? BE 8.6 should recognize DLT 7000 devices without much problems. Is it a Quantum DLT device?

Thanks for your response!

Yes, I did choose to use the Veritas drivers, even tried installing them again. The DLT 7000 drive is a SUN device - do you think that might be a problem?

I don't think a SUN device should be a problem. The reason I asked is because I use Quantum DLT7000 devices and I've never had any problems with them in Backup Exec. Well, I have had problems ;-), but not that BE didn't see the device.

Anyway, you're running a windows server. NT or 2000?
Do you see the tape device in the device manager in Windows?
If you haven't set Backup Exec to reserve the device only for itself, you could try running a test job with the builtin backup software from Windows. That would rule out a device failure.

To configure the adaptec SCSI card, see technote 234316 on the Veritas support site:

I hope this helps
