I just added a DLT7000 tape drive to my Windows 2000 server. The SCSI adapter and the system recognized the drive but when I attempt to use it with MS Backup software provided by Windows 2000 I am told the media is not NEW and must be replaced. The media is used but shouldn't I be able to format the media so the system recognizes it as such? What am I missing here? I don't see a format/initialze option anywhere in MS Backup.

Can someone please advise me as to how to use the DLT drive as a backup device with MS Backup or will I need to buy some other software to drive the T/D?

Thanks in advance.

Rudy

You have to look in restore tab and right click the tape you want to format. You can't see the format if MS back up can't see the tape drive so update the SCSI adapter and the DLT drivers to latest versions.

Still the same problem maybe MS backup program is corrupt, repair it or try to evaluate Veritas Backup Exec ( ) you can use for 60 days.
