.dll error

Wondering if anyone might be able to give me any info on an error I keep getting. When I try to install a lot of application programs I get an error message saying that the file WS2_32.dll is not found and the load cancels. I'm working on a WIN98 platform (upgraded from 95!). Have tried installing the ws2_32.dll from MSdownloads but is says this is only for WIN95, and when I try to install it just comes up with an error message saying that setup has been cancelled. Any thoughts would be great.

Maybe it's a DCOM thing... Try looking for the latest DCOM package (there is one for 98 somewhere, DCOM98.EXE or something), and install that. Otherwise, wipe out you computer and start over?
