dlink dwl-g650 won't connect to wr54g in g-only mode

I have a dlink di-624 at home and i can connect to it set in g-only mode with my dwl-g650 card in my laptop, but when I goto work and try to connect to the company wrt54g set in g-only mode, it won't connect although it shows it in its site survey list. But if I put the router in mixed mode, I'm able to connect at 54mps. Anyone have any ideas why I can't connect to the linksys router when its in g-only mode? (Other people are able to so it must be functioning ok)
