I added a D-Link DWL 650 pcmcia wifi card to my Toshiba laptop running Linux 9 but when I try to activate it, I get:

"Cannot activate network device eth1!
pcnet_cs device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization."

I installed the latest drivers, "pcmcia-cs-3.2.7" but no luck. My eth0 cat5 network card works fine.

I try to "/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart" but get this error message:

"Shutting down PCMCIA services: cardmgr moduleds: Device or resource busy"
"yenta_socket: Device or resource busy"
"pcmcia_core: Device or resource busy"
"Starting PCMCIA services: cardmgr."
"cardmgr[2021]: watching 2 sockets"

Any help would be appreciated.

Do 'service network stop' before trying to shut down pcmcia.

Also, depending on the version of the card the driver changes for the 650. Older versions were Prism based and used the orinoco_cs driver, which is the only driver I've had great success with.
