Good Day!

I tried to swing particular scsi adapter where my tape drive is connected , may it be remove or move option under HMC

, there is a message that prompts me and failed says:

ERROR

HSCL2930 DLPAR MORE I/O resources failed: HMC moving I/O slot…

The I/O slot dynamic logical partitioning operation failed. Here are the I/O Unit/Slot IDs that failed and ther reasons for failure:

21040002 The dynamic logical partitioning operation failed.

Also, I have setup all the ip address of all servers including the HMC and ioserver and I can ping either all servers. I tried to “rmdev” the devices attached to this scsi and remove the declaration of the scsi itself on the server owning the peripheral, but still the same. How to solve this problem?

hi ,

if you want to move your tape drive which is connected to a particular scsi card to another partition you have to firstly remove all the devices associalted with that scsi card at unix level

e.g rmdev -dl pci5 -R

note check what devices are connected to the pci before you remove it .

Then using the HMC move the scsi adapter to the other node

is this what your after or am i barking up the wrong tree?

hi!
you have to check following step for DLPAR troubleshooting.

1) Check item for moving adapter to another slot
* system has to have availible slot
* system has to be not set to another static lpar node.
* system has to be remove all child device which is connected pci device.

2) Check item for working DLPAR mode.
* Both HMC and AIX system has to be check if all rsct daemon is active using "lssrc -a|grep rsct " command.
* Going into linux on HMC with fuction key(Ctrl+Alt+F1)See if HMC's partition is active and DLPAR mode for "lspartition –all " command.
for example output:
<#0> Partition:<001, partition01.company.com, 9.3.206.300> Active:<2>, OS:<AIX,5.2 >
<#1> Partition:<002, partition02.company.com, 9.3.206.300> Active:<2>, OS:<AIX,5.2 >
<#2> Partition:<003, partition03.company.com, 9.3.206.300> Active:<0>, OS:<, >
<#3> Partition:<004, partition04.company.com, 9.3.206.300> Active:<0>, OS:<, >

! Active:<0> partition inactive
! Active:<2> partition active and DLPAR mode
