I have a DL380G3 with a SMART 5i+ controller in integrated duplex mode.
x6 Ultra 320 drives, 2 boot the os (W2K3) on port a, and 4 are on port b for data.
I have since installed a 6402 controller (128mb) as the 5i+ is downgrading the 320 drives to 160mbps. I have moved the data drives onto the 6402 and have left the os drives on the 5i+, this being the boot controller still.
Due to this configuration I can still keep the system in duplex modem (now PCI Duplex), otherwise all the drives would have been installed on the 6402 in PCI simplex mode.
All has been detected ok after running F9, and deleting the failed drives, and all the data is in tact.
Could you please let me know if this is an ideal configuration, or should all the drives be put on the 6402 in simplex mode?
I was taking the route of fault tolerance/resilience.
Please advise
thanks
