Is there any way to get the data back?
The array was deleted using the Compaq Array Configuration Utility. Does anybody know if its possible to at least see the data on the drives?

I would say NO unless you got help from a professional data recovery company (and paid for it!)

On my 5 yr old HP netserver pro I was able to recover a deleted array by recreating the exact array, then not formatting it. rebooting the server brought it all back.
HP tech support walk me through it. 2 drives had failed on the raid5. The tech said it was rare 2 drives actually fail at the same time - they were probably ok and he was right.
After the array was up I failed the drives one at a time and replaced them under HP warranty.
