DL380 storageworks 920 problem

We are trying to back up 42.gig on a raid 5.

Symptoms.
Cant write to HP StorageWorks Ultrium 920. Does fine for about 1-2 minutes then stops at less than a gig.

Server info
Compaq DL380
1gig ram
40%CPU load (while backing up)
Netware 6.5 Service pack 5
42 gigs
raid 5

Any ideas?
driver issues with this?
Im not a server guy so what should I try first?

Cleaning tape in the Ultrium 920. Look in Event Viewer also. Is the 920 in a library, or is it just hooked up as a standalone external drive? Does the 920 have a cleaning light that comes on (I can't remember)? Even if it doesn't, that is the first thing I'd do (clean it with a cleaning tape). If that doesn't work, try reseating all SCSI cables.
