DL380 IML message to syslog

I'm running Redhat Enterprise 3 and trying to get the IML messages to be copied to the /var/log/messages file, I've installed the hpasm package which claims to have this functionality and setup the syslog.conf so all messages are sent to /var/log/message, but still no results when I create a new IML log entry using hplog. Has anyone had experience of this, perhaps I'm missing something?
