1 of my clients has 2 DL380 g3 systems that had the advanced ILO installed, When the servers shipped they had the cardboard tags on the front with ILO logins etc.

Funnily enough the techies have ripped them off and thrown them away.

My question is, How can they reset the ILO and get it back to its advanced state ? if they cant find this piece of card etc, what should they do ? ive read you can reset this from inside, but if this is done A how do you do it, and B this will obviously set it back to basic, how will they get it to advanced again if they have thrown the DVD cases away that contained the ADV serial ?

Are they stuck ?

You should be able to reboot the server and during the hardware boot, you should get the option to press F8 to enter the ILO setup. You can do everything from inside that config utility (including resetting the Administrator password)

the label is also stuck to the inside of the cover - ie remove top panel - flip over and it's there

depending on the firmware version of the rib then indeed you can just f8 it - older one's still require the login details

Is there any other way to do this?

I have two machines in a datacentre and need them resetting and don't want to log a call to do it!

What do you mean by log a call? With HP? If you reboot the server and press F8 when prompted during POST, you can reset the Administrator password of the RIB from there. There would be no need to log a call with HP for this.

If you mean log a call with your internal procedures to take the server down, it might be a pain but it is a small pain to get the RIB working and accessible

take the lid off
read the label
a call to hp will not help - they cant read the label remotely either
