Am I the only one having this problem:

I installed djbdns on my qmail server, and it completely kills pop and smtp access to our server. I can't even telnet into it via smtp. Basically, if I configure my the nameservers on my qmail server to be localhost(127.0.0.1), it kills pop and smtp access. If I change it away from 127., pop and smtp access is restored instantly. what am I missing?

I believe the djbdns package is installed properly, as when I set my name servers in resolve.conf to

nameserver 127.0.0.1
#etc...

I can browse the web just find, and dnsq can resolve domain names just fine as well. I understand basic DNS, but I don't understand whats occuring. I guess I'm also unsure whether name resolving occurs when a pop or smtp client attemps to connect. And since it can't resolve the name (I can't ping any of the domains I host when I configure 127. as my nameserver), the connection times out.

slylos,

When a pop or smtp client attemps to connect to a server using a DNS name rather than an IP address, a DNS query is made to a nameserver. When the nameserver responds with the IP address mapping, the connection to the pop or smtp server can succeed.

Do you have named (or another DNS server) running on the same host machine? If not, DNS queries to 127.0.0.1 will fail as no response will be received.
