div goes on next line

Hi, why does a div go onto the next line down instead of staying on the same line as the text.

e.g

sometext here
div text would appear here

--------------------------
sometext here div text should appear here

^^ why doesn't it do it like the second one?

Is there anyway of making it stay on the same line?

Any ideas??

Because a div is, by default, a block level element.
Sounds like you are using the tag out of it's intended context.

You can change the behaviour of the div using CSS, by applying a float to it.

Incidentally, block level elements will take up 100% of the width available to them.

If you don't want the text to be on the next line, don't use a block-level element (such as a DIV) - use an inline element (such as a SPAN).
