Idiot me - I bought a Tecmar Ditto 5/10GB tape drive at the end of it's support life. Neither Tecmar nor Iomega will support it, aside from offering to sell tapes for it.

I've tried to install it in my NT machine and the install seems to go ok but when I try to use it, i get messages that say something like, the tape is not formatted.

It's been awhile since I tried it and the drive is not currently installed but since discovering this site, I thought maybe someone here might be able to help. Has anyone been through this? Has anyone found a solution?

Cheers, woggie

Is this an IDE drive, or a SCSI drive? I seem to recall these were IDE.

If an IDE drive, go into the BIOS and check your parallel port settings (no, not kidding). Certain ATAPI drives (Iomega Zips for example) in NT produce the same error message. Changing the parallel port setting mode often solves it. EPP often works pretty well. From what I recall, it's bidirectional that confuses the drive the most.

good luck!

Thanx for your response, RachelD - It is indeed IDE. As I said, the drive is not currently installed in my NT machine (circa 1995, 1st generation Pentium, 100MHz, 32MB ... :-( )

Thanx for the clues abou the BIOS. I will print this out and try it when I get the chance.

BTW, it's refreshing to see a female tech in the world!

Cheers, woggie
