Am looking for a way to create a "dithered" or speckled drop shadow in Illustrator. Is very common on packaging graphics and I can't figure out how to do it in Illustrator CS. I know I can bring it over to Photoshop and do it but is there any way to keep it vector and do it in Illustrator? I've attached a link of sample image showing what I'm trying to accomplish. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried the Film Grain effect (under Effect>Artistic), you must be in RGB mode to apply this effect... Set the Raster Effect Resolution to 300 dpi or higher for it to look right, and apply it to a gaussian blurred dropshadow.
