Hi, I'm new to MS Project 2010.
I want to know how to get Project to distribute a resource in such a way that it is not overallocated.

For example, I have Task A -takes 9 hours and Task B - takes 9 hours
I have only one person working a regular 8 hour shift.
For some reason, Project allocates Task A 8 hours on one day and 1 hour the next day.
Then task B also 8 hours on the same day and 1 hour on the next day.
How do I tell Poject to just continue allocating evenly, I dont't care how many days it takes, but just to use one resource.
I already set up FS dependency, but its still happening.
Basically, I want to not to have a end date, finish when ever possible but use limited resources.

Thanks

Sorry, but that is not Project's job. If the resource's calendar allows 8 working hours per day and you have the resource assigned at 100% -- it will put 8 hours on day one and 1 hour on day two. A finish to start dependency should fix the problem with two tasks - one resource -- so I don't know why you are seeing an issue.

Project 2010 - automatically scheduled:
Task A: 8 hours day 1
1 hour day 2

Task B: 7 hours day 2
2 hours day 3

If you want to finish ASAP -- assign your one resource at 100% to all tasks and either level or link F to S.

I hope this helps.
Julie
