Distribution lists

I have a scenario where I would like to send a message to a group of users using Distribution Lists.

Once an individual in the group has viewed the message, I would like that particular message to "disappear" from the Inbox of all other members of that distribution list. We are using Microsoft Exchange server and Outlook 2000 at the desktop.

Is this something that can be configured at the desktop or on the server?

That cannot be done. Do it as a mail enabled Public Folder instead and have the user who actions the email remove it or file it in "Done".
