Does anyone know if you can add an outside e-mail account to a internal distribution list in Exchange 5.5? We have someone who does not have an internal account but we need him to receive mail through the distribution list via his internet e-mail address. I appreciate the input.

You have to create a "Custom Receipent" which will then be an object in your Exchange database. It will show up as a blue globe and it is basically a pointer to an SMTP address. You can then add this custom receipent to any DL in your organization.
(To create one: Exchange Admin, File, New Custom Receipent)

If you don't want this to show up on the GAL, you can hide it (on the advanced tab of the CR) - AFTER you add it to the desired DL.

Good luck,
