I have users on Office 97 able to see a department wide contact list in the public folder. I have put a distribution list in there for them (I run Off 2000), but they can't use it. They need to be able to create their own if poss, and certainly modify them.

Is this a 97 limitation?

Didn't know you could change the perms. Can't see the disto in Exch Adm, only the public folder, can't find perms on the distro list in Outlook 2000 - where is it?

They can see the list, just can't see it as a list.

97 users see the distro list as a message. Why?

I thought you used the distro list to assign permissions to the public folder. my bad...

When you created the public folder, what did you choose in the Folder Contains: option?

Contacts.

Can you not have a dist list in a contact folder for 97? I can see it fine in 2000 you see.

I don't know...almost all of my office is OL98 w/only a couple of 2000. How were you able to post the distro list in the Contact folder? Did you email it to it?

I was going to test it w/mine here...but when i select our Public contact folder and click file, new distro list, it won't let me create it there...it makes me switch to the Recipients container.

In Exch admin. From w/in OL98 i don't have the Option to create a new distro list in the contact public folder. i click file, new and can only create a msg, note, mtg rqst, task, app, task rqst, jrnl entry, or office doc.

Indeed. I get the extra option in 2000. Guess I will have to create departmental dist lists in recipients and individual external contacts in public folders.

Ho hum.
