If you mean you created a mail enabled distribution group but forgot to include any members of that DG you have indeed lost any messages sent to that DG.
Having a DG with no members is the recommended way of deliberately creating a "black hole" for any SMTP addresses that are getting dumped with spam or other rubbish.
