Distribution group bounce back message

I don't know if this can be done or not but I am going to ask. We have a distribution group with an email address tied to it. What we are being asked is to set a default message on this group to say we are no longer accepting mail on this account please forward all responses to XXX@XXXX.com.
Anyone know how to do this?

Don't think you can do that on 2003 since it has no Transport Rules unlike 2007 and 2010.
However you could have a mailbox that is part of the DL with an auto-reply rule?

Obviously if this is to external people you'll need to make sure that is allowable at the org level.
