So I have the latest pre-release build of VMPro 6.0.43 and I was wondering if anyone else had tried distributed voicemail yet? If so, do you happen to know what exactly the different statuses and colours mean in the "Distributed Voicemails" section in the VM Client? Up-To-Date is fairly self explanatory, in progress is lovely but how do you know what it is doing? And anyone know what it means when one of the voicemail servers is in red?

Where do you found that version ?

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

Avaya gave it to us to play with the distributed voicemail client, I was assuming there were others out there playing with this build as well?

I think you mean 6.0.34 ?

If yes then i have a question for you.
Did you use the SMTP settings of an existing SMTP server or did you use the SMTP server you needed to install on the VMPro machines? ?

No, Vmail 6.0.43, Admin 8.0.101110.

You use IIS and install it similarly to the networked messaging option, drop boxes, etc. The VM boxes use SMTP to send messages back and forth, but the status monitor is really non-existent, so who knows what it is doing. I assume that would get fixed sooner or later.

That admin version is on the fieldtrial ftp but the 60.43 isn't

Are you sure it isn't 6.0.34 ? that one is there.
What do you mean with networked messaging?

I have installed IIS and also the SMTP server option in there.

Yep. Positive. 6.0.43.

You install IIS on all servers, make sure host names are accessible, set the SMTP options according to the field trial docs, blah blah blah, and then you just sort of let it do it's thing. The master server will eventually show that is is the centralised server indicated in the window title bar and the Distributed Voicemails option will appear in the folder list above the modules, when you click on it it shows the distributed servers and their status.

I have only done it by the current vmpro install docs which are not very clear :)

I will send Avaya an email about this 6.0.43 fieldtrial version.

Ah, so you noticed the lack of clarity as well? :) Have any clue what the status colours mean? I have one server not quite in sync and it is coloured red for some reason, I am guessing that means "trouble" but who knows. Maybe it's just being festive.

I did not even had a server in there :)
I think that 6.0.34 not even works with distributed voicemail :)

I do not have the server in to a domain yet but i will give that a shot next week.

I think that the docs are not clear because it was not finished yet.

Ah, that makes sense, I believe 6.0.43 is the first in the Dist VM trials. I don't have my VM servers belong the domain, it's not actually required so long as the hosts files are correctly formatted to resolve the machine names of the different VM servers.

Nice that a domain is not needed.
I have just send the new product guys an email so hopefully they reply tomorrow :)

Is there also anything mentioned about a backup vmpro server ?
I have tried that too but that isn't working too.

*Supposedly* that works in .43 as well, but I have not tested it. I gather (unless I am misreading this) that you can either have a backup or distributed, but you can't do distributed with a backup.

You can do both at the same time but you can not use a backup vm server for backing up a distributed vm server.

You can only backup the main vmpro server.

This is from the installation docs:

2.5.5 Combined Options
The various centralized voicemail options (standard, fallback, backup and distributed) can be used within the same Small
Community Network.

· An IP Office using a distributed voicemail cannot be used as the fallback IP Office for the central IP Office.
· A distributed voicemail server cannot also be used as the backup voicemail server.

Ah, red means the sync isn't working. Sad there is no better explanation. I restarted the VM service at the distributed site and the server disappears from the centralised server's list temporarily then reappears coloured black and it seems to be back in sync.

Interesting. The brief doc subset I have leaves out all mention of backing up the centralised server. Go figure.

Backup uses the SMTP too but again the installation doc is nt very clear.

Do yo uhave those colors when you use the client on the server or on your pc?

I do not have any colors :)
I use RDP ( i know, i should not do that)
