Distributed Report is blank on some PCs

I'm using CR 8.5 with an ODBC connection to a propriety db app. I'm creating it on an XP machine and generating a distributed report. When I run the report on my PC, it works perfectly. I've tried to run it on 4 other PCs of varying capabilities and different OS (2-XP, 2-2000) and the report comes up blank.

I've created other distributed reports for that work on these PCs and don't know what is different this time.

Thanks in advance,
Lorraine

Can the database be accessed from those machines? Is security blocking access.

Try Database > Verify Database. If it doesn't find them, refer it to whoever looks after data security.

Yes they can access the database. They are running other distributed reports on the same files on the same PCs. I ran some of those to check their connectivity and permissions with no problems at all.

Define "Blank" are you getting a totally BLANK page - no header/footer/page number, etc - or are you getting a report that displays header/footer/page number but returns NO RECORDS...?

That was a good question! Since it was running fine on my PC, I didn't analyze the various sections. When I run the report, I get 47 pages with the footer on each page. When the others run it, they get 1 blank page with the footer on it.

I'll describe the report further: I started out trying to generate a list of job numbers for our admin staff. They were originally given a system report where the numbers were out of sequence and repeated multiple times. My report sorted the numbers and then, using a group header, only printed them once.

Then I was asked if that list couldn't just produce the worksheets they needed. The worksheets were already a crystal report. I just embedded it as a subreport in the group header and suppressed the details of the list.

Now, when I type in the batch number, I get individual worksheets for each job number. It looked clean and easy and works on my PC but no one elses.

What is the ODBC connection for the Sub-Report...?

It may be that your users don't have that database access for the sub-report.

Best test would be to extract the sub-report from the main report so that you have two separate RPT files with no sub-reports.

Compile them separately, and see if they work on the user-machines as stand-alone RPTs.

If they do - embed the sub-report again with a border around it. Then compile and send test on a user-machine, so that you can see if the sub-report is being called by the main report.

The subreport is a compiled report that they're already running on their PCs so that also means that they have access to the data. The new report just automates the process by giving them all the pages at once by typing in a batch number instead of having to type in each individual job number (sometimes there are 50 or more 6 digit numbers to enter).

I just ran it on mine again. I typed in the batch number and it found 166 matching job numbers. It produced 40 pages, meaning 40 unique job numbers (the rest of the 166 are duplicates of the 40). When I run it on the other PCs, it says 166 records are found, but it produces only one blank page with the footer from the main report on it.

If I type each of the job numbers into the original report (the one that's a subreport in the new file) on the other PCs, it brings them up without any problems.

How are the users running the reports, crystal designer, 3rd party app ?

If you remove the subreport do you get any data ?

The users are running the distributed report version. They have Seagate Crystal Reports Distribution loaded and I install the 3 files (.exe, .rpt, .crf) and they run the .exe file.

I just ran a test on one of the target PCs and nothing is being generated--nothing from the Group Header, the Details section, or the subreport. The only thing that shows up is the Page Footer on a blank page. On my PC, I get 71 unique pages.

I really don't understand this. I've created many distributed reports without any difficulties. I've never had one that would run on my PC and nowhere else.
