I have created a report with version 8.5, the data is accessed via ODBC connecting to a Progress database. The report is currently taking 3 hours to run so need to schedule the report to run over night. When I enter the time parameters I am asked for User name and password as secure database, I then press print and the window is placed on the taskbar. Each night at 9 pm a back up is done of the data and the server is down for a maximum of 2 hours, so the server is back working before mid night. The report does not run, is this because the connection has been lost, are there any other reasons. I have tested the report in the day and it works fine, or is there any way to populate the username and password at runtime so that I can use the scheduler in Win 2000 to run the report after the database has backed up

HI I am working on a similar issue for both Progress Oracle Db and standard Progress DB using the Progress 91b and Progress 92 ODBC drivers. I am on Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 as well as on a NT4.0 Terminal Server edition with Meta Frame operating systems.

I have been playing with the idea of using a Batch program that has the Password and userid paramerters as well as the Crystal executable report file. Then I would schedual the Batch file to run on the start up of the server after back ups were performed.

What do you think? Do you think this could work for either of us?

Theere is an article on ODBC drivers called Fix: SQL Server ODBC Driver Ignors Authentication Setting that can be accessed throught Tek-Tips ODBC forum.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Kitrina,

After speaking to crystal support for numerous hours I decided to take a look at Crystal Enterprise (Basic Version) that gets shipped with CR8.5 developer edition for FREE, there are many teething problems with this and using the Progress database, have had to apply numerous fixes, but have this working to the best that I can at the moment.

I looked briefly on the idea of scheduling via a batch file, but with Enterprise all the reports that are scheduled are stored in a temp location for future use, this is ideal for my company, and has gained bonus points with my manager, creep creep.

I hope that Enterpise can assist you.

Kind regards, and many thanks for your reply.
