Does anyone else often feel distracted at work? Like, the allure of the internet is so great, that you surfing forums (cough*tek-tips*cough) more than working? This is getting to be a serious problem for me and I was wondering if anyone else goes through this, and how they deal with it?

(I'd also like to point out that I've yet to miss a deadline because of this)

Have you considered going to a TTA(Tek-Tips Anonymous) meeting. If that doesn't work you could try not leaving your browser open and remove the browser shortcuts from your quick launch and desktop. Then just close the browser between threads and next time you have the urge and are going through the process of going to the start menu to find the browser shortcut ask yourself has it been more than 3 minutes since I last closed the browser. Do remember though we expect you to check in with Tek-Tips at least every 30 minutes.

Isn't Rita the name of your assistant Cajun? ;-)

My boss thought spending Time on Tek-Tips was distracting me, even though I have yet to miss a deadline. I simply explained that the issues I am now addressing take 30 minutes a cycle to run so research and reading is better than sleeping. His answer was to buy me more dev servers, which we seriously needed, that way I always have a server where I can work.

Oh, I see. She puts the ASS back into Assisstant!

So are there actually TTA meetings? Cause that'd be pretty helpful right about now...

So are there actually TTA meetings?

That would depend were you live. The UK guys call theirs the UK Beery Meets do a search for it in this forum forum1091 and there was recently one in the South see thread1256-1077492. Just remember no AA members aloud :)

My distractions while working always involved many more other more pernicious things besides web surfing.

Hmm I have the same problem. Usually I'm browsing car enthusiast forums, but I'm redirected that energy toward tek-tips. Figured my supervisor would rather have me browsing an IT related site as opposed to a site with a big Dodge SRT-4, ha ha.

Burnout is one of the leading causes of distractions. Boredom is right behind it.

These have nothing to do with the rubber bands flying overhead, the IT ball rolling past my desk (you're it!), the latest celebrity couch jumping, hurricanes and family in Texas, the color orange and oooh...look!

Brb

Oh, sorry, got distracted...

It's boredom right now. Trust me...
