distortion when resizing

I am trying to resize our company logo and it is distorted as I scale it down - is there a trick to avoid this?thank u!

If you're using the scale transform tool, hold down the shift and alt keys as you resize.

Here's what ended up working - had to remove background and 'merge visible' then resize, and then there was no distortion of effects... thank u!!
