is there any way to distinguish between internal and external calls as far as the way the phone rings? is it possible to eliminate the ringing completely on external calls only? we are on rel. 22. my boss is bombarded with sales calls and is looking for some kind of solution so that he will know when internal calls are coming in but won't always be bothered with external calls. we are also about to upgrade to 25.40. if there's nothing available on 22 will there be anything available on 25.40? thank you very much.

Internal calls should show on the display as the extension and the name. If you don't have caller ID, then the trunk information is displayed for external calls. As far as I know, you cannot change the ring for internal verses external like Lucent does.

is there any way to turn off the ringing for external calls only? I am on rls. 22 currently, but am upgrading to 25.40 within a month. thank you.

You can setup distictive ring which will make the ring on external calls different than the internal calls.

You can not just ring internal and not external. However, you can get creative and have his did assigned to his assistance phone - that whay his external calls are screened. or make the DID a phanton or dummy acd pointed to voice mail. or if he has a display he can look at it and choise not to answer it. or set ext fdn and hunt to a different location to be screened. or and combination of the above.

There is a way to turn on distintive ring on outside calls but if you do that it will cause trouble with fax machines answering DID type calls. The distintive ring also is place on 500 type stations. The fax machines that are tied to the switch will not answer. Turn on the distintive ring in the RDB for the DID route. But beware of the fax.

Hey TC,

Your RLS 22 has another ring option called RCO, which is Ring Cycle Option. This allows you to set the number of rings on a per station basis from 1 to 15 cyles, for both internal and external calls, to include distintive ringing. You can set 3 options each for regular and distintive rings, options 0,1,and 2 in the Customer Data Block. For example, set option 2 to ring once, on your boss phone, under the RCO prompt, set it to 2, when an external call comes in it will ring once then forward to voice mail if thats what he has. For fax machines, keep their RCO at option 0 which is a default of 4 ring cycles. You may have to review the RCO feature for more details but play with it, it is available in rls 22. Hope this helps.
