Hi,

I used to have a 3x8 here and my distinctive ringing was goign through without a problem. Now that I upgraded to a CICS, I can't seem to get it through, I get the same ringing regardless of that number is ringing. I went through the config with NRU 9 and couldn't find it...

Also, I just learned the hard way that the backup of a cics loaded with the line card and sets card options isn't compatible with the basic ksu.... My ksu here in the office was loaded with the options and I just removed them this morning to sell them to a customer. The system lost all it's config *Yes, It was unplugged when I pulled the cards!* and I was happy I had a backup that I would restore later in the day. In fact, later, I had to reprog everything again, that darn rad wouldn't load the backup since options changed..... I wonder why they don't make the backup in a text file, that would be compatible with everything...

As soon as someone gets his hands on NRU v10, please advise !!! :)

Thank's for any answer you can provide about problem 1

Luc

How was distintive ringing setup before? from the Telco? if so was the Distinctive ringing box hooked back up to the new KSU? or did you just have some sets on site to ring only on some of the lines and use Feature *6 ?

As for the Backup, systems normaly do not like to be downgraded therefore you loose programming.
Backups or for restoring your KSU to it's original state when it went down.
You can use the Xcel workbook sheets of NRU next time and save the text that way.

Montreal,
I've noticed sometimes that the NRU doesn't save the 'old' file which it needs to do the restore. Good ole' Nortel eh?
Grrr.

Distinctive ringing is offered by the Telco and didn't require any configuration on the 3x8. Instead of ringing one long ring it two shorter rings. All the sets are ringing as I don't think norstar ksu can "use" the distinctive ringing and send to different sets....

On the 3x8, the sets were ringing in the same pattern as the incoming ring from the telco...

Luc,
I know exactly your problem. I think as you the CICS doesn't transmit the ring pattern of the CO as the old Compacts did. I couldn't guess if this is a function of the CICS from Rls1.0 or it's evident at a given level of software... what I do know is that CICS Rls 6 software allows for different rings on different keys. So if you used a Ring Selecter you could put a diffent ring on the target line key with Rls 6.
I like the Compact 3X8. One of the best options of Norstar.

30BGW06NAT is the version I get when I ask from the maintenance menu... what software version would this correspond to ?

I can't read the pcmcia card in a notebook.... yet I can read the newest Flash cards used in the callpilots.... Do you have a clue ? I'm curious.

MS,
Your number excedes my 4.2 tables. I rather think you have a 5.0 or higher my guess is Rls 6. Look for distictive ring in line programming. If you find that then you have Rls 6 for sure.

6.0 would not help because its distinctive ring from the Telco meaning same C.O port but 2 different rings..am I not right Arr?
Aslon you did not answer/say if you had hooked the distinctive ringing box back up which goes before the KSU.

By the way, I did NOT have a distinctive ringing box hooked up. Both ring patterns would get through the ksu to the set, both on the first line.

I consider adding a ring selector box and hook it as an additional line, but I liked the way It was originaly, since I could figure which line was ringing without looking at the phones. (and it would add to our knowledge!).

If Rls 6 mentions distinctive ringing, then I guess there would be an option to let the ring patterns go through the sets...

If any of you have the rom files of the pcmcia cards, please email.

Thinking now, the box I refer to is only to send the call to the right set (for Single Line sets).
Perhaps Arr is saying not only can you have distinctive ringing on a per C.O basis but it also supports distinctive ringing form the Telco on one C.O.?

The distinctive ring of Ver 6.0 only changes the ring pattern for an incoming line as it rings on the DN setPatterns 1 thru 4). it is not the distinctive ring that the telco sells. there are distinctive ring boxes that work with the different telco ring patterns and output the call to different ports of the box, headache is that then you would need a different line port for each ring type.

a possible way to handel your problem could be (if you have a small office) is to have an external ringer (overhead page ringer or external bell) connected in parallel with the line going into the CO port. you would see the indicator on the phone line, hear the tel ring and also hear the distinctive ring overhead. it's not neat but it would get the job done. It's just weird that the co ring pattern 3x8 made it through the 3x8 and not on a mics...

Oh well, since I'm using only 2 lines I'll use a "distinctive ring box" and hook it to the 3th line of my ksu.

Your help was appreciated !

I think the reason may be that the distinctive ring may be just too short for the loop start card to recognize as a valid ring. JerryReeve
