Distinctive ring for 2 DIDs on a fax

Hey Everybody,

I was going to be testing this out tomorrow with a customer but was wondering if anyone had done what they're trying to do...

Previously, they had 2 DIDs for the fax, on one analog line into the machine, and 1 DID would print and the other would send to reception as a PDF. I'm not privy to the previous config on CS1k, but figure this would have to do with distinctive ringing.

Based on what I've read in the IPO documentation, you can set analog distinctive ringing for internal or external calls, though both of my DIDs would be external.

So - the question - can I build a user with no base extension in a permanent CF ALL scenario to the fax so 1 DID can go through that flow and distinctively ring as "internal" while the other did hits the fax and rings normally as external?

Are there any other/better ways to accomplish what I'm trying to do here?

Thanks!

In my experience it is most unlikely that a Fax can distinguish if a call is external or internal according to the ring signal.
My guess would be that the fax captures DTMF when the call is answered.
If that is the case then set the analog port CLI to DTMFF, create two goups with the fax as a member.
Route each DDI to a group and when the fax answers IPO will send the group number as DTMF before the connection to the line is made.
Check the programming in the FAX.

A external call will always ring with the external ring signal, you cannot manipulate that unfortunally.

ADDENDUM
Maybe you can using different locales for the DDI ICR, never tried that...

My idea wasn't to have the fax determine whether the call was internal or external but more to have the system have one number send a normal ring as external - and have the fax print, vs having the other number ring another extn call forwarded to the fax and appear internal to force a different ring and based on the ring signal received, program the fax to do 2 different things. I'd like to think its possible somehow...

You first need to know what the Fax looks for to make its decision, no point guessing, until then this is all pointless conjecture :)
