I am using Crystal 8 and have a report with a distinct count in it. It has a chart that also has a distinct count. When the chart displays however it is not a distinct count that shows. Has anyone come across this before? Do you know how to fix it? Learn something new every day *:->*

Just to add some more details. In the group that it is counting there are 24 non distinct records. There are 17 distinct records but the chart shows 18. Learn something new every day *:->*

Are you trying to distinct count an If-Then-Else formula? If you are, the ELSE condition is an empty string ("") even if you skip the else line of the formula. This is adds one value to your list. To force CR to use an Else NULL you have to fool CR. Look at formula #14 in faq149-243 . Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

No sorry Ken, we are not using an If then else count. However, for a shortwhile it will display the correct amounts in the chart. We went in Chart Options and Display Status and deselected the tick boxes Major Grid and Minor Grid, as we clicked on Apply it changed the chart to display correctly. If you then save the document and close it and reopen it will have gone back to displaying incorrect values.

Or sometimes it will show correct values. It's driving us potty! la la la la Learn something new every day *:->*

Is this a group chart or an advanced chart?

Ken

The settings are:-

Place Chart Once per Report
On Change of 'Ethnic Origin'
Show 'Distinct Count of Student ID'

I hope I have given you enough data this time! :) Learn something new every day *:->*

You may be encountering a bug, but the sum of the bars in the chart may not be the same as the distinct count of the entire report. Any chance that a student can have more than one ethnicity value? Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Ken, No, it's not possible for a child to have more than one ethnicity value. The ethnic code is in the main table along with the student Id which we are using for the distinct count.

I too think we must be encountering a bug. I don't want to waste any more of your time. I will recreate the report from scratch and hope that it just works ok this time!

Thank you for all your help. Learn something new every day *:->*
