Distiller generates PDFs with black frames

Hi,
I'm having trouble with black boxes appearing in place of certain images and text frames when generating PDFs in Distiller.
This occurs only in Distiller when using postscript files made from Quark in OS X.
I do not suffer this problem when using preview to generate PDFs from the same postscript files.
This also fails to occur when exporting direct to PDF from Quark.
Why does Distiller do this and Preview does not and has anyone else suffered a similar problem?

Distiller 7.0
Quark 6.5
OS X 10.3.9

Try the Quark forum - you may get more responses there. Generating PDFs from Quark always seems to be a problem (no guesses as to why) and there may be someone more knowledgeable over there who can help.
