Using Acrobat 5, on a Dell dual processor machine, Windows 2000, Service pack 2, I get these errors consistently:

---------------------------
Acrobat PDFWriter Error
---------------------------
Acrobat PDFWriter has encountered an error in its programming. We apologize and ask your help in troubleshooting the problem.

Please make a note of the kind of document you were printing, programs you were running, and steps you took before the error, along with this message:

Publisher 2000 , Word 2000 .
If I try to use PDFWriter, I get this message:

PDFWriter 5.0 File umpd.c Line 350

Then, restart your computer and try once more to see if the problem happens again. It happens in both Distiller and PDF Writer
If I try to use Distiller, I get 'invalid file handle'

Finally, tell us your results at our Web site: The web site robot gives me no help at all! Any ideas, please!

In the months since I made the first report, SP3 to Win2K seems to have solved the problem....

Fred

I'm sorry no-one was able to come up with any suggestions for you. But glad to hear the SP update cleared up the problem.
