dissapearing email

We have a user whose email is dissapearing after about 10 seconds of sitting in the inbox. All rules have been turned off and there are no view filters applied.

The client is using outlook 2003 and windows xp pro SP2. The exchange server is 2003 with SP1.

Any ideas anyone?

oh i forgot to mention that i have tried accessing the mailbox through OWA and the same thing happens. Also made sure that the user does not have any profiles logged in on any other machines.

ok here is a bit more background.

Last night the user created a new exchange profile on his home pc and connected to his exchange mailbox using rpc over http. Thats when he noticed that his inbox was empty all of a sudden......
